Michael Nelson, Ph.D., FACFP, has been in clinical practice in the central Wisconsin area for more than 25 years. He received his baccalaureate in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1976. Subsequently, he attended the Michigan State University where he received his master’s degree in Psychology in 1983 and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1987. Additionally, he later completed a postdoctoral externship in forensic psychology and was made a fellow of the American College of Forensic Psychology in 2000.
Dr. Nelson is a generalist who, while eclectic in overall orientation, generally favors interpersonal and cognitive/behavioral approaches to treatment. He prefers processes that emphasize self-actualization and individual worth. Areas of special interest include treatment of depression and marital conflict. Additionally, he performs assessments of Attention Deficit Disorder, Personality, Learning, Cognition, and other psychological concerns. He also enjoys the challenge of forensic evaluations for attorneys and courts in criminal and civil matters. An ongoing member of the Wisconsin Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, the American College of Forensic Psychology, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Dr. Nelson is a former chairman of both the WPA Professional Interest Committee and the WPA Professional Practices Committee.
